Vancouver is not only one of the best cities in the world, it was also the host city of the Olympic Winter Games 2010. As the snow-covered high mountains are not directly located at the edge of the city, most outdoor activities took place in Whistler, some 125 km north of Vancouver. As we rented a car to make a day-trip into alpine landscape, Whistler was an obvious destination. After some sightseeing detours through Stanley Park and along the Pacific Coast, we followed highway 99, the “Sea-to-Sky Highway”. Some discussions and considerations further we decided to buy the incredible expensive peak to peak ticket: you run up Whistler Mountain with a cable car and – after a short walk between the two lifts – a chairlift. Back at the top station of the first lift, you enter the peak 2 peak cable car, which indeed runs from one peak to another peak, the Whistler Blackcomb. With 436 m above ground it is “the highest lift of its kind in the world”. From Whistler Blackcomb two chairlifts run down again to the pedestrian village of Whistler. The four of us (Flo, my parents and me) enjoyed a great view from Whistler Mountain and of course this special peak 2 peak adventure. On our way back to Vancouver we stopped at another waterfall. Final “highlight” of the day was a Chinese dinner we (first of all Flo) will never forget…
In the meantime we arrived in Seattle, pictures of the ship tour via Vancouver Island will follow later…
