2013/10/20: Don Valley and Tommy Thompson Park

After the rainy Oktoberfest Saturday, I spent the sunny Sunday on our bike’s saddle. Finch Trail to the East, Don River Valley to the South, and finally entering Tommy Thompson Park, a five kilometer long manmade peninsula into Lake Ontario which is open to the public only on weekends and holidays. As always in Toronto, the cycle tracks are quite often interrupted and you need a good map, a sense of orientation and a lot of time to find your way, but as a geographer I would never loose my way, I'm just exploring... And I explored a lot today.

Because of a marathon, TTC buses in the area weren’t running today, so I had to cycle to the next subway station to get back to York. This means that I cycled more than 50 kilometres on one day for the first time in Canada, and this means that a passed a bakery. A real bakery! With fresh bread! Unbelievable! The first bread I eat in Toronto that actually smells like bread. Not cheap, but great. As great as today’s cycling tour.
